Grimdarke was not a foolish spirit. Proud, yes. Stubborn? Most definitely.
But he was not foolish. He knew respect when he saw it, and very rarely was his forest given any respect by those damned Neovians.
So whenever he or his trees were shown respect, he wasn't going to turn his nose up at that sort of offering - especially considering how rare it was to see these days.
After exiting the domain of the water spirit and her companion, the old guardian of the trees took off to make sure that one tree in particular was still safe and thriving - the tree of the Apple Man.
Well, at least that's what Grimdarke used to call his ghostly acquaintance - nowadays he merely just called him by his full, given name Phurinces - while others tend to give the chipper dead man more...friendly nicknames.
Now, the tree of the Apple Man was a very important tree for both Grim and Phurinces, as it marked the meeting and beginning of a very relaxed, respectful friendship between the two entities.
Grim was one to make friends. At all. He preferred the company of his trees and the wind and that is all, thank you very much - but this ghost made him more curious in those who lived beyond the borders of his home.
Before, Grim could not even imagine that such creatures were even capable of compassion to the forest surrounding them! Most were just plain old afraid of it while others scoffed or eyed it like it would somehow give them the biggest pay day of their life.
Phurinces was none of these people, as far as he could tell.
So as he approached the tree that quite literally held the life of his sort-of-friend's in its frail, cracked branches, Grim sighed with relief when he saw the apple blossoms swaying with the wind, secure on their branches.
Curious to see as to whether or not the Apple Man was there, Grim began to trek closer towards his destination, ears perked and alert for any sounds of disturbance in the leaves that were currently being burned beneath his feet.
For the moment, he heard nothing.
